Mass Suspension of Lawyers
DJA lifts suspension of three more lawyers
54 lawyers, out of the 56 who had signed a petition calling to reform the judiciary on August 30, were suspended last week “for contempt of Court”
According to DJA, suspensions are being lifted after reviewing individual cases
ICJ had said that the mass suspension "is incompatible with international law and standards"

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has decided to lift the suspension of three additional lawyers.

In a move condemned by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), the DJA suspended 54 lawyers in September, after a call to reform the country's judiciary.

According to an announcement made by the DJA on Monday, suspension had been lifted for Mariyam Haneefa Khalid, Fareesha Abdulla and Fath'hulla Ismail. It said that the suspensions were lifted after reviewing their cases.

DJA said that they can resume practice from November 13.
