Maldives and the United Arab Emirates had made transactions of over USD 129.2 million in the last five years, the Emirati Economic Ministry has revealed.

An article on news website Al Bawaba said that this was revealed in a meeting where senior officials of the Emirati government welcomed a delegation from the Maldives.

A delegation headed by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, which included Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar, had met with said senior officials to discuss trade between both countries and agreements signed in October.

Al Bawaba reports that according to the Emirati government, trade between both countries had increased by 12 percent from 2015 to 2016, alone. The figures mentioned by the Economic Ministry include non-oil commodities.

Reportedly, Maldives and the UAE had discussed areas of trade such as aviation, tourism, real-estate, renewable energy, innovation, and supporting small businesses.
