Sri Lankan Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has fired back at claims made by Vilufushi Constituecny MP Riyaz Rasheed.
In a tweet posted on Friday, the Parliamentarian and son to former President Mahindha Rajapaksa, said the ‘accusation emerging from Maldives is troubling’. He added that Sri Lanka always had a ‘non-interventionist policy & most definitely has never plotted to overthrow regimes’.

In an interview to local news outlet, Mihaaru, MP Riyaz said that Sri Lanka was actively involved and encouraging a coup to overthrow the elected Government in Maldives. MP Riyaz had also accused the Sri Lankan government of keenly assisting opposition in their attempts to overthrow the Government.
Several members of the opposition are currently living or visiting Sri Lanka, including former President Mohamed Nasheed.
