Court dismisses RaajjeTV's police negligence lawsuit
RaajjeTV's main studio was set ablaze on the 7th of October 2013
The attack came after constant threats, which were reported to the police
The case was filed at the Civil Court on 9th October, over the police's failure to provide safety to the station

The Civil Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by by RaajjeTV, seeking MVR 1 million for the damages caused in the 2013 arson attack on its main studio.

The case was thrown out by the Court's registrar on Wednesday.

It was filed at the Civil Court on October 9th, over the police's failure to provide safety to the station, despite having reported of receiving such threats.

It was thrown out after referring to a case submitted by Hussain Rasheed, father of the late blogger Yameen Rasheed; Yameen was stabbed to death in a gruesome attack in the early hours on the 23rd of April.

The case, filed in May, was dismissed in September, with the Court saying that it does not have the jurisdiction to hear the negligence suit as the National Integrity Commission- the oversight committee for law enforcement authorities- is tasked with investigating complaints of police misconduct.

Hence, as the case filed by RaajjeTV involved the negligence of police officers, the Civil Court registrar informed that the case was "the same as the one submitted by Yameen Rasheed's father".
