Addu City Mayor Abdullah Sodiq says the electricity issues in the atoll were caused by negligence on part of Fenaka Corporation and relevant bodies.
Speaking in the rally held by Joint Opposition in Addu City on Friday night, the Mayor said that most of the homes in the city have been affected due to power outages since start of October. The lives of children and their parents had been affected severely, he said, including those who had sat OLevel examinations.
Mayor Sodiq noted the Government had pledged 24 hours of electricity. He said they had not been able to do this, noting that prices of electricity had been jacked up three times in the past four years of this administration.
This, he noted, was a concern shared by many citizens.
He added that while Fenaka was to provide water supply, they had failed to test the water, even though it is mandated by law. Mayor Sodiq said the water provided was unusable and appealed to all citizens not to use that water.
The Mayor added that the work of the Joint Opposition was to highlight and assist in the reformation of the nation.
