The former President was welcomed on arrival by former Foreign Minister Ahmed Naseem, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) International Spokesperson Hamid Abdul Ghafoor and Galolhu South Constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof.
MDP is yet to make any statement regarding his visit.
It is expected that he will meet diplomats of nations in Sri Lanka and Maldivians living in Sri Lanka, as well as members of MDP’s National Congress.
President Nasheed’s last visit to Sri Lanka was in July, where he had met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe. He had briefed the Prime Minister on the current political crisis in the Maldives, including the Government’s abuse of Parliament and Judiciary.
The former President was granted asylum in United Kingdom, after he was released from jail for medical treatment. He had made multiple visits to Sri Lanka this year.
