Rejection of the resolution passed by the European Union (EU) Parliament is a signal the present administration intends to carry on perpetrating current actions, says former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Speaking in the joint opposition rally in Maafannu Kunooz on Thursday night and referring to the statement released by Maldives Foreign Ministry, the former Preisdnet said the resolution is a vital one. He noted the resolution was a warning that measures will be enacted on the Maldives.
‘The resolution is a key one. It’s a warning that measures will be taken on the Maldives. The resolution will seek to inform their citizens on the human rights violations, murders here and seeks to prevent them from coming here. When the Government says they’re rejecting the resolution, they’re saying the current situation is right,’ he said.
The motion, he said was passed with a huge majority and therefore we cannot take it lightly. The effects of this will be felt on the whole nation, he added.
