Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom says the present Government of his half-brother and President Abdullah Yameen was implicit in financing the current major crimes carried out, such as murder and assault.
He made statement speaking in the rally held by the opposition in Maafannu Kunooz on Thursday night.
The former President said there were many aspects concerning the citizens. The key concern, he said was the loss of justice and selective justice in the society.
‘Justice has not been established. Institutions are not acting on their mandate. No institutions are addressing the concerns of the citizens. Parliament Members are targeted. Parliament is under siege. Government agencies are corrupt to the core. Constitution is subverted. There is an environment where people are scared for their lives, homes,’ he said.
Noting that murder is a crime of the highest degree in Islam, President Maumoon lamented the increase in such murders. He accused the Government of actively encouraging this, adding that the Government had financed this as well.
‘[This is happening] cause the Government is paving the way for it. They are facilitating murders. This is a fact. The Government spends money allegedly on youth, but its spent on certain groups. They are not actual youth. They are the type of youth who have no ethics, but trade in drugs, commit murder, assault. When you finance them, you’re encouraging them, you’re telling them to go ahead,’ he said.
