Kulhudhuffushi Island Council says the 140 row houses built in the island have fallen to disrepair.
Speaking to RaajjeMV Council President Abdullah Latheef said the construction of row houses began in 2010 under the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed. He added the construction on 85 of the 160 row houses were complete. Latheef said the row houses were falling into disrepair, as they were not issued to their owners.
Latheef noted that work on five row houses had halted, while 20 row houses in a section of the island were completed. The recipients of these houses were announced five years ago and the details were shared with the Ministry.
Council said the delays in issuing the houses were caused by Housing Ministry, which had refused to authorize the release. Housing Ministry was unreachable for a comment.
The derelict state of the homes and the delays in handing the houses had sparked concern among the citizens of the island.
