Death in Maldives
Charges to be raised against two in death of expat at water plant
Two Maldivians arrested in connection to case

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has forwarded the case conducted on two individuals in connection to the death of an expatriate in Hinmafushi island to Prosecutor General’s Office.

The 38-year-old expatriate was found dead in the life water plant in the island on August 19th.

MPS said the case was forwarded to PG Office on Tuesday.

Two Maldivians had been arrested in connection to the case. One of the arrestees was a former Police officer, currently in charge of security at the water plant. The other arrestee was the plant manager.

However, it is not clear if the charges were raised against these two individuals.

Happy Market, parent company of Life water, previously said that according to doctors the expatriate had died due to cardiac failure. However, the case was submitted to Police as some of the other employees had said the deceased was abused.

Residents of the island have claimed that the two who had been arrested, had regularly abused the expatriate staff at the plant.
