The Maldivian delegation to the United Nations' 72nd general assembly has ended their stay in New York City and returned to the country.

The local delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Mohamed Asim and included Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, Gender Minister Zenysha Zaki, and Fisheries Minister Mohamed Shainee.

Minister Asim had addressed the general assembly, of which the theme was ‘focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all’, on September 23rd.

Minister Thoriq had chaired a meeting on climate impact and planning for a sustainability in small island developing states while Minister Shainee chaired an event titles ‘Securing a Future for the Oceans: Leveraging Sustainable Fisheries for Conservation of Marine Resources’.

Minister Zenysha had been the co-host at a high-level event on ‘prevention of violence against children’ conducted on the side lines of the assembly.

She had also been a panelist on ‘A Promise to Children: Their Rights and Wellbeing in the SDGs’, organized by multiple foundations including World Vision International.

Minister Zenysha had also participated in a roundtable discussion on ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment’, where she had conveyed Maldives’ progress on the empowerment of women.

The Maldivian delegation also included Foreign Secretary Ahmed Sareer, Secretary Bilateral Ahmed Khaleel, and Permanent Representative to the UN Ali Naseer Mohamed.

The ministers left to New York City on September 15th.
