Y-faction split further
Maduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth has warned that action will be taken against Members of the Elections Commission (EC), stressing that the Members had forgotten their Constitutional roles.
He made the statement speaking in Thursday night’s edition of RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee program.
The Parliamentarian, who had been illegally stripped from his Parliament seat by the Commission, vowed to take action against the Commission Members, stating that the public will witness this.
Alleging that the Members had been active party to various unconstitutional acts, MP Ameeth said these Members must be removed from their seats.
Many of the current Members had lobbied for votes, MP Ameeth said. However, he said once they were elected they had prioritized the rights and agenda of others rather than that of the public. The Parliamentarian further said it was highly unlikely that a free and fair elections can be held with the current Commission.
Reflecting on the current campaign activities run by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim, MP Ameeth questioned on how anyone can start campaigns on elections that are yet to be announced. Noting that many within ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) do not support the First Lady’s agenda, he said these very members agree that they are inmates.
Ameeth added the members found it unacceptable that it was Hulhuhenveyru Constituency MP Moosa Manik, a recent entrant to the Party, was taking a senior role in campaigning along with the First Lady. The original members of the Party, he said was disenfranchised as they had no ownership role. This, MP Ameeth said spelled trouble for the Party.
MP Ameeth defined the Government’s tactics of price manipulation of basic goods as dishonest and unacceptable to public.
