Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain claimed that many within ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) will rise in defense of the public.

Speaking in RaajjeMV’s Fala Surukhee program, Saud said the ruling Party members continue to speak of the Elections Commission (EC) decision to strip them from their Parliament seats in a bid to intimidate the members still with the Party. However, he said he was quite sure that these very members will rise in defense of the public against the Government.

Saud said these members had expressed their remorse for having failed to do so before, adding that they themselves admitted this administration was cruel.

MP Saud further predicted further splintering in PPM, indicating this was already visible. He said while the First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim was taking a key role in campaigning, this cannot be seen throughout the Party. Noting that there was no connection between the activities of the First Lady and the senior leadership of the Party, Saud said the Party had been fully hijacked.

Saud said the abuse of judiciary to change the Constitution was the reason for the current state of the nation. MP Saud indicated the opposition will initiate measures to remove the judges who had aided and abetted the abuse of the judiciary.
