Criticism had flowed on social media, after Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz had claimed that no housing units were created in Dhihdhoo island in Haa Alif atoll during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
He made the statement in a twitter post penned in Dhivehi, stating that he had personally placed the cornerstone for the buildings during this administration.
In a press conference in Housing Ministry on Monday, Minister Muizz had criticized Dhihdhoo Council, claiming that the Council had not extended any support to the Ministry. The Council denied the claims.
The criticism that had come in response had questioned on the practices used by the Government and Housing Ministry regarding social housing. Similar sentiments had been raised over the list publicized by the Ministry on who had won the flats.
Dhihdhoo Council had filed case in Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging that there were elements of corruption in issuing flats in the island.
Most of the housing units under construction were initiated during the Nasheed administration.
