Maamigili Constituency MP and Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim is to undergo cardiac surgery on Wednesday.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Jumhooree Party Secretary General Ahmed Sameer said the Parliamentarian is scheduled to undergo surgery at Singapore’s Novena Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He added that MP Qasim will be admitted at the hospital at 9am Singapore time. The surgery is scheduled to begin at 11.30am and expected to last between one and half hours to two hours.

MP Qasim was recently released for medical treatment, after having been jailed for three years, two months and 12 days on bribery charges. Criminal Court issued the verdict on the Parliamentarian just after midnight on 25th August, in absentia, as MP Qasim had collapsed on way to the Court earlier in the day. The verdict ordered relevant bodies to facilitate traveling arrangements for the Parliamentarian to go abroad to complete his medical treatment.

However, MP Qasim was permitted to leave after a while and only for 10 days.

MP Qasim’s doctors at Singapore’s Heart, Stroke and Cancer Center had advised that he be allowed to remain abroad for the duration of treatment and recovery, which is expected to last at least three months.

The family of the Parliamentarian had submitted this to the authorities, after which the medical leave was extended by only 10 days.
