President Abdulla Yameen has said that it is the responsibility of the ruling party to find solutions to any issues within its government.
The President, who is the chief advisor of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), made the statement while speaking at the inauguration of "Y18 Sports Fiesta" on Monday night.
PPM has been divided into two factions since 2016, as President Yameen clashed with his half-brother, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, over party leadership.
Since the dispute began, President Yameen has won control of the party, via a Civil Court ruling, from Maumoon, PPM's founder and elected leader.
Speaking at Monday night's ceremony, President Yameen noted that the party "must work along with the government".
Noting that "issues regarding the government can be solved through dialogue," the President stated that "influential people from the party can file these issues with the party's council or government cabinet ministers".
He added that if there are any further doubts "the President can even be summoned for questioning," adding that he will happily go and answer any questions regarding the government's policies.
He further noted that there "are certain procedures to be followed" within the party, adding that they have proven this previously.
