Major General Ahmed Shiyam, the chief of Maldives’ national security, has on Saturday returned from his official trip to Japan.
Major General Shiyam was in Japan to participate in the ‘Coastguard Global Summit’.
The summit was held in Tokyo from the 11th to the 14th of this month. It is a forum of senior maritime safety officials.
The forum heard a keynote address on roles for coast guard units of participating countries to further act as the legal enforcement agencies for sustainable maritime management.
The summit had sessions on Maritime Safety and Marine Environmental Protection, dealing with international ocean pollution, and one to discuss international cooperation in addressing maritime crime.
About 40 countries, territories, and institutions had participated in the summit.
The Maldivian delegation included Coast Guard Commander, Colonel Mohamed Ibrahim as well. They had left to Japan on 10th September.
