Maldives Police Service (MPS) says the investigation into the death threats made on judges and staff at the Criminal Court during MP Qasim Ibrahim’s trial is underway.

Police media official reported that the investigation was underway and therefore no additional details cannot be revealed.

Following the death threats, hearings of the trial were closed off to the public.

Criminal Court Judge Adam Arif during the trial had confirmed that such threats were made on the staff and judges. He also said the case had been filed with Police.

Qasim, the parliamentarian for Maamigili Constituency and leader of Jumhooree Party, had on August 3rd denied that he had any connection to the threats.

The parliamentarian was sentenced to three years, two months and 12 days in absentia.
