UN Special Rapporteur for Myanmar thanks Maldives for Rohingya initiative
Says initiative shows Maldivians’ respect for humanity

The United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar Professor Yanghee Lee has thanked Maldives for their initiative to help Rohingya Muslims.

She made the statement in her exclusive interview to RaajjeTV’s Maldives with Rohingya telethon, speaking from Seoul, South Korea.

The Rapporteur noted that this showed how much Maldivians respected humanity, adding that she was pleased with RaajjeTV’s initiative on the issue.

The telethon had amassed over MVR 3 million. When questioned about sending the aid to those in need, Lee said there were international aid agencies active in the areas housing Rohingya migrants in Bangladesh. She noted even the smallest bit of aid can make a significant impact. Lee further noted that the Rohingya were in need of basic essentials like food and long term psychological care.
