President of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, has met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.

Their discussion covered the work they carried out together during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, which Shahid presided over, and assessed the status of several initiatives he launched during that period.

Shahid also briefed the Secretary-General on the For Our Future report published by the International Community Organization.

Shahid later delivered a keynote address on the report at an event attended by 70 UN member states and multiple UN organizations.

He shed light on strengthening the role of youth in confronting current global challenges, emphasizing that the long-term consequences of today’s decisions will fall most heavily on younger generations.

Further, he underscored that the youth-centered efforts he initiated to bring young people into the UN system are being carried forward by subsequent presidents of the UN General Assembly.

The ‘For Our Future’ report, issued by the International Community Organization, an entity aimed at advancing international peace, is connected to the Pact for the Future adopted by the UN last year.
