During his visit to Fenfushi island of Alif Dhaal atoll on 6 October 2025, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented a list of key development projects, framing them as high-priority initiatives that will be expedited and completed without delay. The announcements covered a broad range of sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, and public utilities.
The coastal protection project will move forward with modifications to the existing design, incorporating a seawall or quay wall based on community feedback. The changes aim to align the project more closely with residents’ expectations for coastal resilience and long-term shoreline protection.
The mosque project will include the addition of a mortuary, addressing a longstanding need within the community. The mortuary will be integrated into the mosque’s design as construction progresses.
Plans for a new, fully independent health center were announced, replacing the current facility. The proposed center will be a two-story building, expanding the available space and enhancing service delivery. The new design intends to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the island’s residents.
Projects such as the development of a volleyball court, police station, waste management center, and a running track around the football field will proceed in line with community expectations. Once the track is completed, lighting will be installed at the field to enable nighttime use.
Work on school facilities will resume with added resources and urgency. The president stated that classroom buildings will be completed in time for the upcoming academic year.
A new multipurpose hall has been added to the island’s list of development projects, intended to serve various community functions and events.
As part of a nationwide initiative, all classrooms and staff areas in Fenfushi will be equipped with air conditioning. This includes student spaces and administrative areas, enhancing comfort and learning conditions.
The sewerage project will move forward with changes to the location of the outflow area, aiming to improve efficiency and address environmental concerns.
President Muizzu’s visit to Fenfushi was marked by a strong emphasis on accelerating delayed projects and realigning existing plans to better reflect local priorities. However, as with many such visits, the success of these promises will ultimately depend on timely execution and consistent follow-through.
