The main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has held a motorcycle rally in the capital Malé City on Saturday evening as part of its preparations for the upcoming mass gathering scheduled for October 3.
Organized to build momentum and mobilize public participation, Saturday’s rally saw a large turnout of MDP activists and supporters. The event was designed to generate awareness and encourage widespread engagement in what the party has framed as a pivotal demonstration.
Senior members of the party were prominently present, including former parliamentarians and key figures from the MDP leadership. Their participation underscored the political weight the party is placing on the October protest.
The rally also served as a platform to express growing discontent with the current administration. Attendees voiced strong criticism of recent constitutional and legal amendments, which they view as a direct threat to fundamental citizen rights.
A specially produced campaign song for the upcoming protest was played throughout the streets of Malé during the event, alongside repeated calls for maximum public turnout at the October 3 gathering.
MDP has signaled that this series of events marks the beginning of a larger movement aimed at resisting what it sees as increasing authoritarianism and the erosion of democratic norms in the country.
