Statutory institutions lack the courage to oppose the government’s decisions, said Former Transport Minister Ameen Ibrahim.
Ameen, who is also the opposition Jumhooree Party’s deputy leader, said this while speaking to Raajje Television. He further said that the current administration is attempting to alter the Criminal Court’s verdict.
“Somehow the court has made a decision that is not sitting well President Abdulla Yameen, we can clearly see state institutions fall short of implementing the verdict because they a hesitant to go against the wishes of this administration” Ameen said in reference to last month’s sentencing of Jumhooree Party leader Wasim Ibrahim.
He further talked about the government’s recent call for dialogue between the government and the opposition, to say that there is no ‘clear point to dialogue without party leaders’.
The government had announced its decision to continue the All Party Talks initiative last month.
