It has been revealed that among all members of the People’s Majlis, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim, representing Dhiggaru constituency, has used airport VIP services the most frequently for personal travel.
The information, obtained by a private individual through a formal request to the People’s Majlis, covers the period from 28 May 2024 (the swearing-in date of the 20th Majlis), to 31 July 2025.
According to the disclosed data, the state spent over MVR 1.5 million on VIP lounge services for Majlis members during this period. Of this amount, the highest expenditure was attributed to Deputy Speaker Nazim.
Under current Majlis regulations, the state bears the cost of VIP lounge usage when members travel via airport. While many members made use of this privilege, Nazim topped the list with 133 recorded uses, totaling MVR 116,099.18 in public expenditure.
Following him, the second highest user was MP for South Feydhoo constituency Ibrahim Didi, who used the service 97 times at a cost of MVR 84,673.84. In third place was MP for Meedhoo constituency and prominent businessman Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, who used the lounge 78 times, incurring MVR 68,088.24 in costs.
The revelation has sparked criticism on social media, particularly because Ahmed Nazim has been a vocal advocate for reducing state expenditure. His frequent use of VIP services, despite his public stance, has raised questions about consistency and accountability.
