The Housing Ministry this week announced that it has begun road work on Kulhudhuffushi island of Haa Dhaalu atoll, in its bid to tackle flooding there.

Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu said in a tweet that officials have begun work to lay road tar in the island, adding that this project began on Wednesday, 30th August.

The ministry is to lay 5.8 kilometers of tar on a total of 18 roads in Kulhudhuffushi.

The project is being carried out by the Maldives Road Development Corporation.

The road work in Kulhudhuffushi island began in 2010, but was at a halt until 2013. This was when ‘Ameeneemagu’, on the island, had been developed before road construction in Kulhudhuffushi was at a halt again.
