President Abdulla Yameen is responsible for conferring the ‘immense’ amount of privilege that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb had, said MP Ahmed Mahloof.
Mahloof said, while speaking to Raajje Television’s ‘Miraees’ programme, that President Yameen is culpable in everything Adeeb is responsible for.
The parliamentarian had referred to Adeeb’s letter with the Supreme Court, where he confessed to knowing key details in the weapons possession case for which former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim is serving a jail sentence. Mahloof said that President Yameen is undoubtedly aware of the same facts and his silence over the matter disconcerting.
Mahloof said that the public should not be willing to accept such ‘negligence and deceit’ from its leadership and that President Yameen has lost the trust of the people.
“President Yameen has made the people scared and isolated. They have begun to believe that anyone can be jailed and prosecuted at the whim of the administration, and that there is no longer going to be room for the electoral process” Mahloof said.
The parliamentarian expressed confidence that the authority of the constitution would prevail over ‘any tyrannical intentions’ and went on to say that President Yameen will soon have no choice but ‘to flee the country’.
