MP Qasim transferred to Corrections custody
Criminal Court sentenced MP Qasim in absentia in early hours of Friday
No set date on when he can be transferred abroad
JP SG Sameer appealed not to transfer Qasim to jail

Maamigili Constituency MP and Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim has been transferred to custody of Maldives Correctional Service.

Corrections media official Ahmed Luqman had confirmed that they had carried out the formalities as listed in the Criminal Court verdict. However, he said that there was still no set date on when the Parliamentarian can be transferred abroad for medical treatment.

Jumhooree Party Secretary general Ahmed Sameer had also confirmed the transfer, adding that Corrections Department had informed that MP Qasim will be transferred abroad as soon as possible.

Sameer said that MP Qasim was still in critical condition and condemned the lowly action of attempting to transfer Qasim to jail while he was in that state. He added that there were no arrangements within prison to cater to MP Qasim’s condition, calling on the Government not to do this.
