A Maldivian has been arrested in connection to the death of an expatriate at the Life water production facility in Hinmafushi island in Kaaf Atoll.
The 38-year old Bangladeshi native passed away on Saturday. The body is currently in the mortuary.
The local was arrested from Hinmafushi on Tuesday under a court order.
Residents of the island report that the arrested individual was a close associate of the plant manager and a former Police officer.
Life Company CEO Ali Ihsan said that they had requested for a Police inquiry as it was a sudden death. He said the deceased was first taken to Hinmafushi Health Center and then transferred to Male’, where testing was done in both Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and ADK Hospital. Both hospitals, he said confirmed that the deceased had passed away after a cardiac arrest.
Ihsan also reported that there were no visible signs of any physical abuse on the body.
