Maumoon Hameed, lawyer for now jailed Member of Parliament for Dhiggaru Constituency Ahmed Faris Maumoon has stated that the MP wished to attend Parliament session on Tuesday and requested authorities to facilitate this.
The lawyer made the request in a letter sent to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan on Monday.
In the letter Maumoon Hameed stated that a Parliament session was scheduled for 22nd August 2017 at 0900 hrs. He said that his client, MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon wished to attend the said session and requested the relevant authorities to make the appropriate arrangements to facilitate this request.
MP Faris has been detained for over a month, after Criminal Court ordered that he be placed in custody for the duration of the investigation and trial into claims of attempted bribery of his fellow Parliamentarians.
Criminal Court had authorized that MP Faris could attend Parliament Committee sessions. However, Corrections Department had not made the necessary arrangements for this.
