President Abdulla Yameen has nominated Ahmed Naseer as the new Governor at the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Last Wednesday, following Governor Dr. Azeema Adam's resignation, the President had nominated Neeza Imad to the post.
However, via twitter on Sunday, spokesperson at the President's Office said that the President has nominated Naseer to the post and has sent his name to parliament for approval, after withdrawing Neeza's name.
Naseer, former State Minister during former President Mohamed Nasheed's tenure, had also served as the CEO at Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA). He was appointed to the post in February 2015.
He has also filled senior posts at the Maldives Monetary Authority.
Azeema Adam resigned as Governor on August 16, revealing the decision leave the Maldives and move to the United States, where her husband Dr. Ali Naseer currently resides. Dr. Naseer was recently appointed as the Permanent Representative to the United States of America and non-resident Ambassador to Canada.
