B. Kamadhoo island council by-election results show the whole country's stance on incumbent President Abdulla Yameen's government, says leader of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), former President Mohamed Nasheed.
While the Kamadhoo island council by-election was held on Saturday- due to the resignation of an elected council member- MDP's Ahmed Sajid won the seat, with 169 votes, to ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s Ali Naaiz's 142 votes.
After the preliminary results were announced, Nasheed via twitter said that these results "not only show what the people of Kamadhoo think of President Yameen's government, it's the whole country's word [against it]."
