A youth has been arrested and remanded in connection with an accident.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the accident took place after a motorcycle, which was overtaking illegally at high speed on the highway, collided with another motorcycle. MPS on Saturday revealed that an accident involving a motorcycle illegally overtaking at high speed on the highway was reported to the authorities at around 02:43 p.m. on November 29.
Two individuals on one of the motorcycles were injured in the collision and were rushed to Hulhumalé Hospital for treatment. They were a Maldivian man and a woman.
The police institution noted that the man was treated and released, while the woman is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
Arrested in connection with the case is Shunan Mohamed Shakir, 22, a native of Eydhafushi island of Baa atoll.
He was riding the motorcycle that illegally overtook and fled the scene after the accident.
Upon being presented to the court on Saturday for a remand hearing, the suspect was given five days in remand.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the accident.
