Dr. Aishath Rameela has resigned from her position as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, citing her deteriorating health.
The President’s Office on Sunday revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu accepted Dr. Rameela’s resignation.
The president noted that even while battling her illness, Dr. Rameela had sincerely helped in advancing the rule of law in the Maldives and in properly managing state affairs in a way that brings benefits and prosperity to all citizens in her capacity as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare. Muizzu has extended sincere gratitude for her cooperation and honorable and thorough service to the government.
Noting that having a hardworking, trustworthy, and capable person like Dr. Rameela in his Cabinet of Ministers was a great pleasure, Muizzu expressed confidence that her service to the Maldivian nation would continue in the future.
In addition to this, the president prayed for increased patience and resilience for the former minister and for her to be granted a swift and permanent recovery.
Muizzu wished for her to have a happier and more prosperous future than today.
Dr. Rameela’s resignation comes at a time when she had previously traveled abroad several times for cancer treatment. The former minister has not disclosed further details about her diagnosis.
