The committee has decided to greenlight the appointment of former Elections Commission President Fuwad Thaufeeq as the Maldives' Ambassador to Thailand.
The letter sent by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the appointment was read out during Monday’s parliamentary sitting.
In the letter, the president stated that under Article 14 of the Foreign Service Act, for the purpose of appointing ambassadors to foreign countries, he is nominating Fuwad Thaufeeq as the Ambassador of the Maldives to the Kingdom of Thailand and requested parliamentary approval for his appointment as ambassador.
The matter was sent to the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee on Monday for review.
During a committee meeting held on Tuesday, the decision to recommend Fuwad’s appointment as the Maldives' Ambassador to Thailand was passed by a majority of nine members present at the committee.
Members who spoke at the committee noted that Fuwad is an experienced person and has rendered numerous services to the state.
Fuwad served in the Elections Commission for a long time. He served as a member of the EC from 2008 until September 2009. After that, he served in the EC from 2009 to 2014. In 2019, Fuwad was again appointed as the President of the EC. His term ended last Saturday.
