Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that the report circulating regarding the case of Vifag Ibrahim Adnan’s death is inaccurate.
Vifag, native to Maamendhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll plunged to his death from the 10th floor of a building in the congested capital Malé City.
A report claiming to be about the incident of Vifag's death has been circulating on social media.
Some social media users have been claiming that said report was released by the police investigation team.
In response to these reports, the police institution has asserted that the incident report being circulated on various social media platforms, claiming to be about the case of Vifag’s death, is not an authentic document.
Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the case, MPS revealed that no further information could be disclosed as it is an ongoing probe.
MPS also revealed that they are looking into additional matters related to the circulating report and confirmed that it is not an authentic report.
The 25-year-old plunged to his death from the balcony of his residence on the 10th floor of Hasovaage in Maafannu-ward at around 5:37pm on August 14.
Vifag's death was reported to authorities at 6:19pm that day.
Channel 13 has since released an investigative video report in connection with the incident.
The report alleges that Vifag was the victim of sexual abuse, at the hands of his stepfather, Ahmed Nazim, who is the MP for Dhiggaru constituency and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.
The Maldives Broadcasting Commission has since launched a probe into these serious allegations.
The report has been subject to criticism from many and at a press conference held by the police institution on October 13, Chief Superintendent of Police and Head of Major Crime Investigation Hassan Shifau provided a detailed account of the incident surrounding Vifag's death.
He also shared the details of the investigation carried out regarding Vifag's death and refuted the allegations made against the family.
