Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb did not have the opportunity to disobey President Yameen’s orders, says Maafannu North Constituency MP Imthiyaz Fahmy.
Speaking in RaajjeTV’s ‘Fala Surukhee’ program, MP Imthiyaz reflected on the close relationship between President Yameen and his one-time Deputy. He noted that during President Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s administration, Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) had warned that if Adeeb is dismissed as Tourism Minister, then PPM will leave the coalition. MP Imthiyaz added that under the Yameen administration, Adeeb was appointed first as Tourism Minister and later as Vice President, as per the wishes of the President.
He said that Adeeb was never arrested on a theft case and remarked the relationship between the two had continued on.
MP Imthiyaz also expressed concern over the authorities’ inaction following President Yameen’s confession, asking whether if this really was a state. Carrying cash to a person’s house was reminiscent of how mafia groups operated and not a Government, the Parliamentarian added.
‘There are rules and procedures over how funds enter Government premises. [They] have to be audited and goes into Government agencies. I see that funds are being taken like in films on mafia operations, straight to the bosses after tasks,’ MP Imthiyaz said.
‘When he talks about the funds, he clearly says this Government was accused of the biggest graft. That he is accused the biggest corruption scandal. These two are aimed at him and his administration,’ he said.
MP Imthiyaz added that the laws and procedures have been changed to facilitate corruption.
