Two expatriates have been arrested in connection with an operation conducted in Phase III of Hulhumalé.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the operation stemmed from an intel report received by their Counter Narcotics Intelligence Unit, regarding the illegal possession, use and trafficking of alcohol.

Arrested in connection with the operation are two Bangladeshi nationals; 49-year-old Paran Das and 30-year-old Al Amin.

The operation was conducted on October 4.

As part of the raid, the men were arrested inside a construction site in Phase III.

Officers confiscated 324 cans of beer, 378 bottles of alcohol and 10 five-liter bottles as well as seven 500ml bottles containing suspected alcohol, upon searching the location.

Officers of the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department (DED) conducted the raid.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
