Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to hold conferences with island councils in different regions of the Maldives.

Speaking at the party’s national congress meeting held on Wednesday, the party’s chairperson Fayyaz Ismail revealed that there are many concerns from island councils regarding the changes brought to the Decentralization Act.

Highlighting that MDP has conducted online consultation meetings with councilors from different islands, Fayyaz noted that their concerns were discussed during these meetings.

He went on to note that based on these consultations, they have decided to hold conferences in different regions of the Maldives.

As such, the first conference will be held in Kulhudhuffushi City on October 12.

Councilors from Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal and Shaviyani atolls will be participating in the first conference.

Further, Fayyaz expressed hope that several members of MDP will participate in these conferences, to be held across different regions of the Maldives.

According to Fayyaz, these conferences will see discussions held on how the party will shape its work in the future and touch upon their efforts to defend the decentralized system.
