Recently appointed Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef has met with Attorney General Ahmed Usham.
The meeting took place on Thursday, at the AG Office.
As part of the discussions held at the meeting, AG Usham congratulated the recently appointed PG on assuming his duties as PG.
The PG and AG engaged in discussions on avenues to further enhance and develop the criminal justice system.
PG Abbas also shared his vision to reach an accomplished criminal justice system, with AG Usham.
Further, AG Usham encouraged the prosecutor general to remain sincere and committed to fulfilling his responsibilities.
According to Article 220 of the Maldives’ Constitution, the prosecutor general is required to carry out his responsibilities and duties in accordance with the Constitution and any laws passed by the People’s Majlis and must act independently and impartially, and he shall not be under the direction or control of any person or authority in carrying out his responsibilities and the exercise of his powers. The prosecutor general is expected to carry out his responsibilities and exercise his powers without fear, favoritism, or bias, adhering only to the general policy directives of the Attorney General, while upholding principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability.
