The People's Majlis has greenlighted the appointment of Abbas Shareef as the Prosecutor General.
MP for Manadhoo constituency Husni Mubarak presented the Judiciary Committee's report on the matter of Abbas Shareef's nomination for the recently vacated position of PG, during Tuesday’s sitting.
The lawmaker said that reviewing whether Abbas meets the requirements for the position of PG, it was confirmed that he fulfills all the conditions and that no complaints were received from the public regarding him.
Following this, Abbas was interviewed by the committee on Monday.
The lawmaker went on to reveal that Abbas scored over 90 percent.
The committee unanimously decided to recommend his appointment to the position.
The Judiciary Committee’s report was put up for a vote during Tuesday’s sitting.
85 parliamentarians voted in favor of his appointment as PG.
In the interview conducted on Monday, Abbas said that from the moment of his appointment, he would work to strengthen the operations of the Prosecutor General’s Office and that he would place great emphasis on timeliness as well as closely monitoring the productivity rate.
