Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem has been appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and Farhad Rasheed has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as the elected judge representing the lower courts, elected by courts.
Habeeb and Farhad were presented with their Letters of Appointment by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a special ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday.
His oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice, Ali Rasheed Hussain.
Habeeb earlier served as the Vice Chairperson of the Elections Commission (EC).
He has also served two consecutive terms as a member of the commission.
The newly appointed HRCM member holds a Bachelor of Shar'iah and Law from Villa College and a Master of Arts (Dhivehi Language) from the National University of Maldives.
The appointment was made by the president under the powers vested to him under Article 158 (d) of the Constitution of Maldives, and Section 3 Paragraph 4 of Law No. 2008/10.
Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain administered his oath during Sunday’s ceremony.
He then signed the oath of office in front of the president.
The new JSC member served as a Judge at Civil Court from 2013.
He holds a Bachelors in Shar'iah and Law from Maldives College of Islamic Studies.
