The operations were conducted in Isdhoo island of Laamu atoll and Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll

Two individuals have been arrested in drug operations.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the drug operations were conducted as part of their ongoing efforts to halt drug smuggling and trafficking attempts across the island nation and crackdown on such networks.

The operations were conducted in Isdhoo island of Laamu atoll and Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll.

Arrested during the operation conducted in Isdhoo island was Mohamed Afraz, 28 and native to Maabaidhoo island of Laamu atoll.

Officers found him in possession of substances suspected to be narcotics.

The suspected drugs weighed 236.3 grams.

Upon being presented to the court for his remand hearing, the man was remanded for a 15-day period.

One of the operations in Villingili island was conducted on August 23, following an intel report.

As part of the operation officers searched an abandoned house in the island and found an empty film cannister filled with suspected narcotics.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case, so far.

The second operation was conducted a day before, when a 34-year-old man was arrested on the streets of Villingili island.

Officers found two rubber packets upon searching Ahmed Rishah after stopping him on the streets.

Upon being presented to the court for his remand hearing, he was remanded for a period of 15 days as well.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with both cases.
