No injuries were reported in the fire that broke out inside a non-residential property in the capital Malé City in the early hours of Monday.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) revealed that the fire broke out inside Orchid Plaza, a non-residential building located on Buruzu Magu.
A pile of trash caught fire inside the house and it eventually spread to the entire building.
MNDF received reports of the fire at around 03:31am on Monday.
Firefighters of MNDF’s Fire and Rescue Service were able to completely douse the flames, which had engulfed the entire building and left it severely damaged in its wake, at around 04:49am on Monday.
Although no injuries were reported in connection with the fire, the entire building was severely damaged in the wake of the massive fire.
The entire area was immersed in smoke and nearby buildings were affected as well, with officers having to evacuate residents from neighboring homes.
RaajjeMV understands that even though the house was vacant, it was a nest for people involved in drug-related crimes.
Residents of the streets are to have frequently observed people alleged of drug abuse, entering and exiting the building.
