The man who was arrested in connection with a gang violence in Hulhumalé, has been remanded.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) earlier this week, revealed that initially arrested was a 22-year-old Maldivian man.
The man is accused of assaulting a youth in Hulhumalé. The incident took place in Hulhumalé Phase I, on July 8. According to MPS, the suspect was arrested under a court order on July 18.
The police institution revealed that the victim in the case is Ahmed Nafeez, native to Raiymandhoo island of Meemu atoll.
He has been remanded for a period of 30 days.
On July 23, a 23-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection with the case.
The Hulhumalé Magistrate Court remanded the suspect until the investigation concludes.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
Gang-related crimes including violence, assault and several others are common in the Greater Malé Region.
MPS has on multiple occasions expressed concern over the rise in criminal activities in the capital region, involving criminal gangs with the active involvement of minors.
According to the police institution, efforts are underway to crackdown on such gangs and gang-related crimes as part of their strategic action plan.
