Mohamed Amir, who was appointed as the Youth Associate for Feeali island of Faafu atoll by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has been drawing salaries for the past four months, without working, as there has not been an office space dedicated for him to date.
Amir was appointed as the Youth Associate of the island on 17 March 2024.
The appointment was made leading up to the People’s Majlis elections held back in April 2024.
According to the employment verification receipt signed by Minister at the President’s Office for Presidential Affairs Ali Arif, the position of Youth Associate for Feeali island promises MVR 13,000 including a monthly wage of MVR 8,000 and MVR 5,000 allocated as a living allowance.
While Amir was appointed to the post, it is to be noted that a youth center is yet to be established on the island.
This means that four months since his appointment, there has been no office or institution established for him to clock into to carry out his responsibilities.
However, RaajjeMV understands that Amir has been collecting his monthly salaries without any hiccups.
At a time the country is on a downward spiral in economic terms, public expenditure is through the roofs.
Further, a large chunk is spent of paying the salaries of political positions as well.
The state has also been paying salaries to the suspended deputy ministers on a regular basis.
