Maldivians traveling to Thailand are now entitled to visa-free travel, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Maldivian nationals travelling to Thailand for different purposes including tourism, business engagements or urgent work/ad-hoc work will be entitled to visa exemption for up to 60 days.
This change is effective from 15 July 2024.
According to the ministry, an additional period not exceeding 30 days, may also be granted.
This can be done on request before the permission period expires, according to the ministry.
Further, the ministry noted that extension of stay is solely at the discretion of the Royal Thai Immigration.
The ministry has urged travelers to obtain travel insurance and has urged Maldivians traveling to Thailand, to comply with the laws and regulations of the country.
Several countries have provided visa exemption to the Maldives, in the past as well.
