An expatriate in possession of alcohol, has been arrested.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that arrested in connection with the case is a 29-year-old expatriate.
The arrest was made in Hulhumalé Phase I.
Officers patrolling the streets of Hulhumalé Phase I stopped a van on Reethigas Magu, after noticing suspicious behavior from the driver.
48 cans of beer and 13 bottles of alcohol were found stashed inside the van.
Further, MPS also reported another case, where officers patrolling the streets of Hulhumalé Phase I on July 5, instructed a group of individuals on two motorcycles near the Yellowfin Tuna Jetty to stop, after noticing suspicious behavior.
They were carrying large disposable plastic bags and had fled the scene despite being instructed to stop.
The areas where they were located, have been identified through CCTV footage and when officers searched the areas, they found the large black bags the suspects were to have been carrying.
120 cans of beer were found inside the bags.
Both cases are currently being investigated by the Hulhumalé Phase I police station.
