The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Head of Mission of Maldives to the European Union has presented credentials.
Geela Ali presented her Letter of Credence to President of the European Council Charles Michel earlier this week.
The ceremony was held at the Europa Building in Brussels.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’ following the credentials ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer congratulated the ambassador and highlighted that EU is a close development partner of the Maldives.
FM Zameer expressed confidence that the ties between Maldives and EU will continue to enhance during the ambassador’s tenure.
The meeting held between Ambassador Geela and the President of the European Council saw the ambassador extending greetings to him from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Shedding light on the existing friendly relations between Maldives and EU, the ambassador highlighted the conclusion of the first framework agreement, ‘Samoa agreement’, between the Maldives and EU.
She went on to express commitment to further intensify cooperation between the Maldives and EU.
The European Council President congratulated the ambassador on her appointment and welcomed the “positive” and growing momentum between Maldives and EU.
The meeting was joined by First Secretary Mohamed Shaffau Ibrahim and Second Secretary at the Mission of the Republic of Maldives to EU Hassan Nawaaf.
