President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has instructed to monitor the extent to which state-sponsored media outlets promote the government.

A letter addressed by Minister at the President’s Office for Strategic Communication Ibrahim Khaleel, was forwarded to state institutions and government ministries and companies on June 24.

The letter reads that the President’s Office appreciates the extent to which the state’s information is being disseminated and circulated by multiple media houses in the Maldives, that are sponsored by the government ministries as well as companies.

The letter goes on to request that government ministries and companies send the amount provided to media houses as sponsors, to the President's Office by the fifth day of every month.

The letter reads, “the president requests your institution to share the details of the media houses sponsored by your institution and the amount sponsored, before the fifth day of each month”.
