Four individuals were treated for smoke inhalation after the fire that broke out inside a house in the congested capital Malé City on Thursday.

Teams of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) were dispatched to the scene not long after the fire broke out.

The fire is to have broken out on the third floor of Enzian, a house in Maafannu-ward of the capital city, on Thursday afternoon.

The four victims were rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IMGH) for treatment for smoke inhalation, after the fire broke out.

A media official at MNDF told RaajjeMV that they are yet to determine the cause of the fire.

However, MNDF noted that several properties on the floor were damaged beyond use, due to the fire that left the apartment uninhabitable in its wake.

A large number of items on the floor were damaged beyond use in the fire.

MNDF confirmed that their teams began efforts to douse the fire at around 02:15pm and was able to fully extinguish it by 02:50pm.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’ on Thursday evening, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) revealed that they were working to provide shelter and the required support for the residents of the apartment.
